Florida ARES Coordinators,

As you are no doubt aware, the Corona Virus is receiving wide spread attention throughout the world and in the United States. Florida is also seeing activity, that has resulted in several EOC’s as well as the State EOC move to a partial activation. Although, the virus has not dramatically effected normal communications, we need to be prepared to respond if called upon to provide backup communications to essential services.

EC’s are keenly aware of the possible requirements that their served agencies may need and I am sure that you will respond accordingly. It is important to note that we do not want to send operators into areas where infection is known to be occurring for their safety and no doubt served agencies would never request that. As the point of contact for the State of Florida for ARES resources, I will be actively involved in that assessment if a request to deploy our resources is received from the state.

I encourage you and your members to follow CDC, health department and other reputable sources’ advice when it comes to keeping you and your members from contracting this or any other virus. I am hopeful that this incident with rapidly come to an end, but we need to be vigilant as this could remain an issue for sometime.

I want to thank all of you and your members for your volunteer service and readiness for any incident or event that we may need to participate in. I will try to provide further updates as necessary.
